AgustaWestland Streamlines Purchasing Processes
Helicopter manufacturer AgustaWestland is owned by Italian Aerospace and Defence company Finmeccanica S.p.A. As part of its continuous improvement strategy, the organisation identified that order book management between them and their suppliers was an intensive manual process. With approximately 1,500 suppliers, this was a significant point of pain for the business.
AgustaWestland identified that a module of the Vendor Portal from BizAps, called Vendor Co-ordination, would provide a central online portal to manage the orderbook. Following the pilot phase, AgustaWestland found that the portal was a valuable tool and took the decision to make it available to many more suppliers. This has increased to the level that 40% of direct procurement purchase orders are transmitted through the portal; this equates to over 300+ suppliers.
The key benefit of implementing the portal was reducing non-value added processes such as manual entry and tracking misplaced orders. This greatly enhances the benefits the purchasing team can offer to the business to aid efficiency.
Following the success of the UK implementation, AgustaWestland has implemented the solution in Italy.
